HTML Cheat Sheet: What Is It?

If you are just getting into coding or want to refresh your mind, we recommend downloading an HTML Cheat Sheet.

Alternate Name:

  • HTML Coding Cheat Sheet.

HTML Cheat Sheets aim to collect the most commonly used codes. This will make it extremely easy to locate and determine the codes you need. For this reason, it would be much easier to create and use electronic HTML Cheat Sheets as the codes can be simply copy and pasted without having to write them out from scratch from a piece of paper.

Without HTML coding, there would be no fixed structure on websites and this would create havoc. Just imagine if any text, videos or images on a website were not fixed. HTML acts as a skeleton and without it, not many websites would make a great deal of sense.

What to Write on an HTML Cheat Sheet?

No matter your experience, it is important to note down the most commonly used and the most important HTML codes. If all of this information is in one document, you will save yourself as large amount of time when coding a website. All that you would need to do is simply open the document and find the specific codes that you need based on the required function. It may also be a good idea to group codes based on their functions, for example having all the functions relating to text in one category which will make it easier to locate the required information.

Any basic HTML Cheat Sheet should contain the following information:

  • Information about how to select colors of text including the background of texts and any borders or shadow around text;
  • How to use any characters (or emojis) on a page. Each character has their own specific code and if you want to include this, it is best to familiarize yourself with the various characters and their corresponding codes;
  • If you want to create any links or tags you should be certain of how to do this, particularly if you are a business. You should seek to create a maximally comfortable environment for your clients online;
  • You may want to include ads on your website – which can be a great source of revenue. If so, you want to make sure that your cheat sheet includes this important information;
  • Any structures considering tables or images should clearly be described – not just the basics, preferably all possibilities;
  • If you want to create head tags or provide a specific separate section for useful links, be aware of the codes that you would require to do this.

Of course, this is not an extensive list, this is merely a list of top suggestions that every individual would benefit from. We would suggest exploring more than one cheat sheet to find out which one is tailored more to your memory and job requirements to find the perfect match.
