A Cease and Desist Collections Letter is a document that can be used to officially demand a debt collector to stop contacting the sender of the letter. The purpose of the letter is to notify debt collectors that from now on they must not continue communication with the sender of the document.

This letter can be used to stop all types of communication (calls, text messages, or emails), to stop communication during a certain period of time (during working hours, during nighttime), or to stop contacting certain types of people (the sender's family, coworkers, or boss). Generally, this type of letter contains several parts, namely:

  1. The Sender. In the first part of the document, the sender is required to provide their name and address for identification purposes.
  2. The Addressee. Here, they must designate the name of the debt collector (or debt collector's agency) and their address.
  3. Reasons for Writing. Senders are supposed to use this section of the letter to request the addressee to stop contacting the sender under the state and federal debt collection laws.
  4. Possible Consequences. The sender must state that if the address will continue contacting them, the sender will pursue legal action and file an appropriate complaint.
  5. Signature. At the end of the letter, the sender is supposed to put their signature and indicate their name.
