Using the definitions below as a guide, choose the assessment that best describes the employee’s
performance for each of the performance indicator categories. Check ( ) each category from “A” to “E”
on the chart on the previous page.
PERFORMANCE INDICATOR CATEGORIES:
A. Technical Competence -- these characteristics are referred to as knowledge of the job, productivity,
quantity of work and judgement.
B. Work Standards -- these characteristics describe the way an employee carries out their work in
accordance with district/school requirements. It includes such criteria as care of equipment, observation
of district/school guidelines, neatness, attendance, punctuality, reliability and dependability. It also
refers to the employee’s commitment to the organization and its goals or mission and willingness to
follow orders.
C. Interpersonal Relations -- refer to the employee’s abilities to cooperate with and to maintain good
relationships with other employees, with their supervisor/principal, with teachers, students and the
general public. Included in this category are such traits as cooperativeness, confidentiality, professional
behaviour and relationships with other people.
D. Communication Skills and Information Sharing -- refer to the way an employee expresses themselves.
It involves such criteria as the use of vocabulary appropriate to a situation; demonstration of effective
listening skills and degree of response to communications of others.
E. Initiative, Adaptability and Motivation -- describe the way in which an employee assumes the
responsibility of the position and goes ahead on their own without having to be repeatedly prompted,
demonstrates energy, takes advantage of professional development activities, shows a willingness to
further their skills and enthusiasm in handling their duties.
