CLASSIC ROD LICENSE PLATE APPLICATION
NRS 482.3814
A resident of the State of Nevada who owns a passenger car or light commercial vehicle (having a manufacturer’s rated
carrying capacity of 1 ton or less), manufactured not earlier than 1949, but at least 20 years prior to the date of application,
may apply for Classic Rod license plates. Classic Rod license plates are inscribed with the words CLASSIC ROD and four
numbers. First time fee for a Classic Rod license plate is $36.00, plus .50 cents per plate Prison Industry Fee this includes
a technology fee. For those motor vehicles exempted from emission testing, 1967 and older, the Department will collect a
one-time fee of $6.00 to be deposited into the pollution control account; these fees are in addition to all other registration
fees. The renewal fee for a Classic Rod license plate is $11.00 in addition to all other applicable registration fees.
If your vehicle is currently registered you have the option to maintain your current vehicle expiration date, or renewing for a
full twelve (12) month period. Credit for the unused portion of your current registration will be applied. You must surrender
your current license plates to the Department in order to transfer this credit.
In accordance with NAC 445B.574, if a Classic Rod plated vehicle has been certified, upon each annual registration, to not
have been driven more than 5,000 miles since the preceding annual registration, the Classic Rod may be certified as exempt
from compliance with emission standards. If the vehicle is driven over 5,000 miles, a passing emissions test is required at
the time of renewal.
The owner must provide Nevada evidence of liability insurance at the time of application. Liability insurance must be
continuously maintained in your name, for the entire time the vehicle is registered/or should be registered in Nevada.
First time application for this plate type must be done in person at a full service DMV Office.
