Watch Band Size Chart: What Is It?

A Watch Band Size Chart refers to a visual instrument implemented to find out the size of a band fastened to keep a watch on the wrist of the person wearing it. Whether you have an average watch band size or you need to order a custom watch to fit your wrist perfectly, a chart will be an invaluable tool for you to use before the purchase of the watch is complete.

Since people who wear watches do it practically every day, it is necessary to learn how long and wide the band has to be to ensure comfort for the individual as well as to match the size of the band to the watch.

How to Measure Watch Band Size?

The tips below will help you to measure watch band size and select the right band for an old watch you cherish or purchase a completely new timepiece:

  1. Naturally, the easiest way to check how wide and long the watch band needs to be is to compare it to the band of the watch you have been wearing with comfort. However, you can still learn how wide your wrist is even at home - use a regular measuring tape. If you do not have any measuring tools, a bracelet, thread, or string would work just as well. Wrap it around your wrist - remember not to press the tape or thread too tight otherwise the new watch will hurt your skin.

  2. Use a chart that showcases various watch band sizes to figure out the perfect length and width of the watch band you need. This instrument will show an image of the watch to help you see what the item consists of (the watch, the buckle, and the long side inserted in the buckle), the ruler that will indicate the length of the band (in inches or centimeters but in some cases, both), and the visual diagram that represents different widths (narrow bands around 8-10 millimeters and wide ones that may be over 30 millimeters).

  3. If you plan to replace a watch band, it is crucial to match the new band to the old watch. In order to do so, you have to make sure the band will fit between the lugs of the watch - measure the inner space only. If necessary, use both units of measurement - inches and millimeters - and inform the store that sells watches how wide the band is supposed to be. The old band should also be checked to know the right length - remember not to take the buckle into account in your measurements, only measure leather, nylon, or metal without the buckle. Remember that the band can be modified - make additional holes in it if the material allows it to make it tighter or wider, and you can keep wearing the watch even if your wrist gets smaller or bigger.
