Form MVU-29 "Affidavit in Support of a Claim for Exemption From Sales or Use Tax for a Motor Vehicle Purchased Outside of Massachusetts" - Massachusetts

What Is Form MVU-29?

Form MVU-29, Affidavit in Support of a Claim for Exemption From Sales or Use Tax for a Motor Vehicle Purchased Outside of Massachusetts, is a one-page form to request exemption of the Massachusetts state sales and use tax for motor vehicles that are purchased outside of Massachusetts.

Anyone purchasing a vehicle for use, storage, or other consumption in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is required to pay a sales and use tax unless an exemption is granted. There are two ways in which to qualify for this exemption. One way to qualify is if while you were a resident of another state you purchased and registered a vehicle in that other state for more than six (6) months. You can also qualify if while a resident of another state you purchased the vehicle in Massachusetts, but the vehicle was delivered to you outside of Massachusetts by the seller.

This Massachusetts MVU-29 is issued by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue and the latest revision took place on April 1, 1999. An MVU-29 RMV fillable form is available for download below.
