New Brunswick Teacher’s Certificate evaluation: $70.00

Statement of Professional Standing (see below): $30.00 per jurisdiction
 Official transcripts from the originating institution of all academic and professional training even if credits have
been transferred from one i nstitution to another. In order to remain official, transcripts must be s ubmitted in
envelopes sealed by the institution and preferably included with the application or sent directly from the institution
to our office. If submitting transcripts prior to graduation, please ensure all courses including the internship are
graded and if a degree is intended, a letter from the institution’s registrar’s office indicating that the requirements
have been met and graduation is expected.
 Criminal record verification:
A certified criminal record check is required from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police or the local police in the
area in which you reside.
 Statement of Professional Standing:
If you wish to get information regarding Teacher Certification in other Canadian Provinces or Territories, contact
the respective jurisdiction(s). If you wish to be a Certified Teacher in another Canadian jurisdiction, you must
apply to the respective Teacher Certification authorities along with a N ew Brunswick Department of Education
and Early Childhood Development Statement of Professional Standing letter. This letter states that you are a
Certified Teacher in good professional standing in New Brunswick. If you are applying for a Teacher’s Certificate
in another Canadian jurisdiction it must be indicated at the bottom of the application form.
 Employability Status:
Non-Canadians must submit verification of Canadian Landed Immigrant Status/Work Visa.

Important dates :
 Certificate dated July 2: Apply before October 31 of the same year (provided coursework has been
completed by August 31).
 Certificate dated January 2: Apply before March 31 of the same year (provided coursework has been
completed by December 31 of previous year).
 Please note that work experience is not a substitute for post-secondary credit hours.
Please ensure that all possible supporting documents are included when submitting your application and
allow 4 weeks to 25 work days processing after all documents have been received.

Certification requirements – New Brunswick
Teacher’s certificate 4
The Minister may issue a teacher’s certificate 4 to:
a) A person that holds an approved undergraduate degree in teacher education from a
university in the province with 138 c redit hours, of which 18 credit hours or 18 w eeks
represent approved practice teaching and 30 credit hours represent courses in approved
pedagogical training.
Teacher’s certificate 5
The Minister may issue a teacher’s certificate 5 to:
a) a person who holds an approved undergraduate degree in teacher education which
consists of a minimum of 168 credits hours of which a minimum of 45 credit hours are in
Education and including 18 credit hours in practice teaching.
a) In the 36 additional credits for certificate 5, a maximum of 18 credit hours must be at the
3000 level or higher. A maximum of 12 credit hours may be at the 1000 level or
equivalent in non-university courses (e.g. approved from NBTA and EECD).
Teacher’s certificate 6
The Minister may issue a teacher’s certificate 6 to:
a) to a person who holds a teacher’s certificate 5 or meets the requirements for a teacher’s
certificate 5 and c ompletes an appr oved Master of Education degree with 36 c redit
hours, of which 30 credit hours are at the 6000 level,
b) to a person who completes 30 approved credit hours at the 6000 level that, together with
the credit hours from the applicant’s undergraduate degree, lead to 1 additional major or
2 additional minors in subjects within the programs approved.
