On-site Wastewater System Installer Certification
South Dakota has installation requirements for onsite wastewater systems. These design
requirements ensure that wastewater discharged into these systems is treated properly
and will not pose a risk to human health or the environment. South Dakota's regulations for
onsite wastewater systems are found in the Administrative Rules of South Dakota (ARSD),
Chapter 74:53:01.
Septic Tank Installer Certification
In order to install septic tanks in South Dakota, a person needs to be certified. This certification
program ensures that persons installing septic systems understand the design requirements. If
you wish to become a certified installer, please complete the following information and submit it
to DENR. You will be provided a certification test. A score of 70% or higher is needed to become
a certified installer.
