What Is CBP Form 7512?

CBP Form 7512, Transportation Entry and Manifest of Goods Subject to CBP Inspection and Permit, is a form used for sufficiently describing the cargo to identify it for the Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This document is a compilation of information about the goods carried on a means of transport. It generally shows the goods' consigner and consignee, lists the merchandise details and characteristics such as origin, value, number, and destination. This form is necessary for brokers and carriers who transport merchandise in bond (an export or import shipment that has not yet been cleared by the customs) from a port of importation to another CBP port.

CBP Form 7512A, Continuation Sheet, is a form used as a supplement to CBP Form 7512 and contains information that did not fit in the first form. It includes the description and quantity of merchandise, the kind and the number of packages, its gross weight in pounds, and value (in accordance with the shipping papers).

Consult the CBP officer to know the appropriate number of copies required for entry and/or manifest purposes. Be ready to provide necessary information on a proper bond to the place of shipment, extra copies with a stamp, or notation relating to their intended use.

Make sure the kind of entry is clearly shown in the block in the upper right-hand corner on the first page of the form, whether it is used as an entry or withdrawal. Verify that the merchandise has been delivered in good condition as noted on the original lading.

The private parties may print the form if the printed version conforms to the official version in wording arrangement, size, color, and quality of the paper. All copies may be prepared simultaneously by carbon process unless more than one vehicle or vessel is used. In that case, prepare a separate manifest for each such vehicle or vessel.

How to Fill Out CBP Form 7512?

CBP 7512 Form instructions are as follows:

  1. Specify the entry number, the class of entry, the port of entry, and the first U.S. port of unlading.
  2. Write down information about the importer. Provide the bond description.
  3. Indicate the name of the cartman or lighterman who will deliver the goods to exporting conveyance, and show the location to which the goods must be delivered.
  4. Add the name of the vessel or the carrier and motive power. When merchandise is imported by the vessel, enter the foreign port of lading.
  5. For exportations, indicate the export country, the date of exportation, the final foreign destination, the location of the goods at the present time (name of the warehouse, pier, station, etc.).
  6. Write down the marks and numbers of packages, describe them fully as per shipping papers, including gross weight in pounds, value, rate, and duty.
  7. Add the certificate for transportation in bond and/or lading for exportation. Certify the reason for the transfer, the places of departure, and the destination.
  8. Declare that the information in the form is true and correct to the best of your knowledge and belief.
  9. The inspector has to fill out the report of the discharge at the destination indicating the port, the station, the actual date, the condition of the car, the seals, and the packages.
