DISCOUNT A.S. 38.05.940
Eligible veterans are entitled to a once-in-a-lifetime discount of 25 percent on the purchase price of
state land, exclusive of survey, platting, road construction, and other reimbursable costs. To be
eligible, a veteran will be required to submit proof that the veteran:
1. Is at least 18 years of age on the date of
sale;
2. Has been an Alaska resident for a period of not less than one year immediately preceding
the date of sale;
3. Has served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at least 90 days, unless tenure
was shortened due to a service connected disability or due to receiving an early separation
upon return from a tour of duty overseas; and
4. Has received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable
conditions.
Proof of Alaska residency must address the one year prior to the date of sale and is to include:
A copy of your valid and current Alaska Driver’s License or State of Alaska
issued ID card,
AND ONE or more of the following items:
___ Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend confirmation of eligibility or
confirmation of receipt of funds
___ Employment, Unemployment, or Military records
___ Current, valid occupational licenses issued by the State of Alaska
___ Income tax records showing employment in Alaska
___ School records
Applicants are required to submit as many items of proof of residency as needed to document
the minimum, one full year of Alaska residency. If you cannot supply any of the above items, the
Director may accept other forms of proof. If you are relying on an item not specifically listed
above or have questions about residency, please call the Land Sales and Contract
Administration Section at 907-269-8594 or email landsales@alaska.gov.
AS 38.05.035(a) authorizes the director to decide what information is needed to process an application for the sale or use of state
land and resources. This information is made a part of the state public land records and becomes public information under AS
40.25.100 and 40.25.120 (unless the information qualifies for confidentiality under AS 38.05.035(a)(8), and confidentiality is requested,
or AS 45.48). Public information is open to inspection by you or any member of the public. A person who is the subject of the
information may challenge its accuracy or completeness under AS 44.99.310 by giving a written description of the challenged
information, the changes needed to correct it, and a name and address where the person can be reached. False statements made in an
application for a benefit are punishable under AS 11.56.210. In submitting this form, the applicant agrees with the Department to use
“electronic” means to conduct “transactions” (as those terms are used in the Uniform Electronic Transaction Act, AS 09.80.010 – AS
09.80.195) that relate to this form and that the Department need not retain the original paper form of this record: the depar tment
may retain this record as an electronic record and destroy the original.

(Purchase price minus reimbursable cost; e.g. survey cost, road development cost, etc.)
For purchase of state land, a veteran is a person who: (a) has served on active duty in the U.S. Armed
Forces at least 90 days, unless tenure was shortened due to a service connected disability or due
to receiving an early separation upon return from a tour of duty overseas, and (b) has received an
honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions.
You must submit a copy of your DD Form 214, Report of Separation from Active Duty or
equivalent showing the character of your discharge and length of service. You must also submit proof to
verify you are currently an Alaska resident and have been an Alaska resident for a period of not less
than one year immediately preceding the date of sale.
