Fall 2022-2023 STARS Scholarship Application
Due by January 31, 2022
The STARS Program is a college /technical school tuition scholarship available to assist youth who are in the
th
12
grade or receiving a GED and under 21, who are currently supervised by the Florida Department of
Juvenile Justice. Applicants must be economically disadvantaged and qualify for free/reduced public
school lunch at the time of selection or Medicaid Eligible.
The Florida Juvenile Justice Foundation STARS scholarship covers the cost of tuition for up to two (2) years to a
Florida College if the student complies with all requirements of the STARS scholarship. Tuition will be paid directly to
the college/technical school. Applicants must complete and submit this form, with a 200 -300-word essay, and all other
requirements listed on the Scholarships Rules and Guidelines cover page. Complete and review the checklist on the last
page of this application to make sure it is correct and complete before submitting.
Applications should be emailed to Ms. Julie Orange, Director of Education at
julie.orange@djj.state.fl.us
for review to
verify the applicant meets eligibility requirements and the application is complete. Ms. Orange will notify your
nominator that your application has been received. ONLY applications that are COMPLETE and meet eligibility
requirements will be sent to the Florida Juvenile Justice Foundation office for consideration. When the Foundation
office receives the application, the nominator will be informed by email to notify the applicant. Once scholarship
awards are determined, all applicants will be notified of the decision by the Foundation Office and nominator. Also
applicants will be notified by letter sent to the applicant’s address at the time of applying for the scholarship and home
address if required.
