Skull Mask: What Is It?

A Skull Mask refers to a disguise in the shape of a human skull worn at a celebration or masquerade to entertain people around the individual that chose the costume. One of the universally recognized symbols of the Halloween season and an essential attribute of almost any costume party, a skull not only reminds the person wearing it and other guests of mortality but also celebrates life, change, and power.

No wonder many partygoers opt for this design when planning an outfit for the costume party - it is relatively simple yet scary whether you are hosting a party at your place or helping your child with a mask for trick-or-treating.

How to Make a Skull Mask Out of Paper?

Here are some tips that will help you work on the custom Skull Face Mask ahead of the Halloween celebration or a masquerade:

  1. Prepare the tools - you will need paper or cardboard, scissors, crayons and paint, pins and glue (if you want to add detachable parts or later decorate the mask with a headpiece).
  2. Consider making a 3D mask - depending on your skills and on the difficulty of the task, the item can have volume. You may use thicker cardboard and fold it on the lines or creases you measure on your own or the ones that were already mapped out for you; alternatively, this Skull Face Mask can include several elements you cut out of paper and later combine together to make it three-dimensional.
  3. Do not limit your imagination - the skull you design or print out does not have to look realistic, whether you have a white or yellow skull in mind. A black, red, or golden skull will definitely help you stand out from the crowd of party guests. Besides, if you are celebrating the Day of the Dead and honoring traditional Mexican culture, the skull is supposed to be painted and flashy - black and red colors are the most common but there are no restrictions to your creativity.
  4. You are not obliged to cover the entire face with the Skull Mask - only work on the covering for the forehead and eyes or the mouth. In this case, make sure the mask contains enough particulars - dark circles around the eyes, the external skeleton of the nose, exposed teeth (they do not have to be pearly white, the more decayed they are, the better), and lines depicting facial bones.
