GROUND PROPANE TANKS MINIMUM HEALTH DEPARTMENT SEPERATING
DISTANCES
*Please note the following separation distances to subsurface septic systems and private drinking wells per
the Technical Standards of the 2015 Public Health Code effective January 1, 2015. (These are the MINIMUM
separating distances to each)
*Please go to the Health Department to see if there is a septic system as-built map of the subject properties
existing septic system and draw a sketch to scale showing the existing septic and the location of the proposed
generator, propane tank, and/or oil tank with the location of the private well if applicable. If no map exists on
file with the health department the homeowner will have to call a CT licensed septic installer (usually the one
who pumps their tank & services their existing system) and have them locate the septic system with tie
measurements in order to ensure compliance with the below separating distances is met. Any questions are to
be directed to the health department in relation to these requirements. Please make sure to note the size of
the proposed tank as well on the building permit.
