Statistics Cheat Sheet: What Is It?

A Statistics Cheat Sheet is a sheet that contains very useful information for any students studying statistics and is often referred to as “statistics gold dust.” The reason for this is that it contains all of the various pieces of information that you will need to know in statistics. It will contain the baseline knowledge that you can use and build upon to answer any statistical question that could come up on an exam.

It contains definitions along with equations and examples to help students grasp concepts much quicker. Statistics Cheat Sheets will be particularly useful for students that may be confusing two concepts, two theories or two definitions. After all, what is the difference between mean, mode, and median? What is the difference between a one-sample and two-sample T test? What do you mean there are paired and unpaired two-sample T tests? This demonstrates quite well just how easy it is to get confused but if you have such a sheet in front of you to help, you may grasp concepts much quicker.

How to Make a Statistics Cheat Sheet?

Before you think about making a Statistics Cheat Sheet, you need to have a clear picture in your mind about the purpose of the sheet. Is it really necessary to include every single piece of information about statistics on the sheet or would you prefer to include a select few pieces of information? Perhaps include concepts that you have been struggling with lately.

To make the best Statistics Cheat Sheet we would recommend for you to take the following information onboard:

  • Avoid adding any excessive information. Stick to what is absolutely important and if there is a concept, definition or an equation that you are confident with – do not waste any time adding it onto the sheet;
  • Carefully think about the layout of the sheet. Ensure everything is spaced out nicely so that any information can be found quickly on the sheet. If you have a lump of text it will be extremely difficult to locate the required information. The last thing you want to do is spend valuable exam preparation time skimming and scanning through your sheet trying to find the piece of information that you need;
  • Layout your information categorized by topics. Avoid spreading various topics over various different parts or pages of the sheet. You want everything to be separated by topics so that it will be much easier for you to keep everything organized and again, this will be much easier to locate;
  • Avoid using bland colors and a small font. You want the sheet to be appealing to the eye and any keywords can be written in a different color, a different font or even highlighted in a different color. Putting all of this into practice will make the keywords or phrases more memorable when it comes to recalling the information in an exam.
