Monopoly Board Template: What Is It?

A Monopoly Board is an integral part of the Monopoly game - it is a surface players use to make a move in the game after rolling the dice. While traditionally Monopoly allows participants to get richer by investing in property and buying houses and hotels as well as trying to avoid insolvency, there are numerous iterations of the same game based on fictional universes, books, movies, sports, etc.

If you and your family are fans of a particular TV show or sports team, a Monopoly Board you customize and complete with a personalized set of cards and tokens can be the perfect gift and an item that will entertain you all when you come together during the holidays.

How to Make a Monopoly Board?

Follow these instructions to create your own Monopoly Board:

  1. Select the theme for your game - it can be anything personal for you or a less niche topic to provide you and any of your friends with entertainment. Remember that the theme you choose cannot be too narrow otherwise there is a risk of lacking options for your cards. Come up with an original title for your game and prepare images you will put in the middle of the board to make it even more on-theme.

  2. When it comes to the design of the Monopoly Board template, naturally, it would be easier for you to measure everything correctly if you already own one - alternatively, you can glue paper to the old board replacing markings and lines with your new ideas. In case you do not have a board at your disposal, get thick material like cardboard (it will serve you longer) and cut out a square approximately 19x19 inches (20x20 inches would work as well). Create the surface of the board by designing the blank Monopoly Board with the help of editing software, print it out, and attach it to the cardboard.

  3. Figure out what types of cards you will need for your version of the game. A custom Monopoly Board game will need additional items based on the rules mandatory for all players - they will give participants a chance to earn more money, get a promotion, win a lottery, take their skills to the next level, etc. As for the material you should use for the cards, regular paper will do - decorate the cards with stickers and illustrations that will follow the theme you have initially chosen.

  4. Work on the currency accepted in the fictional universe you are creating. While dollars can work, why not showcase your imagination by making small banknotes that depict real-life people or movie characters in line with your theme? Besides, if you are able to make your own game pieces or tokens, it would be a great idea to follow the theme as well - for instance, a DIY Monopoly Board based on motorsports can feature small racing cars available for players that move forward with their careers.
