In order to understand how to fill out the document, an applicant is required to see Field Manual 3-21.71, Mechanized Infantry Platoon And Squad (Bradley). It contains thorough instructions on what is supposed to be included in the sketch:

• Sectors of fire;
• Target reference points;
• Dead space;
• Maximum engagement line;
• Weapons reference point.

After a gunner has finished with the sketch, they are supposed to fill out the data sections, such as (but not limited to):

• Unit Description. This includes bumper number, platoon, company, etc;
• Magnetic North. In this section, a gunner is supposed to orient the Standard Range Card with the terrain and draw the direction of the magnetic north arrow;
• Position Identification. Here a gunner is supposed to list whether it is an alternate, primary, or supplementary position;
• Date. The date when the range card was completed;
• Weapon. In this line a gunner must state the vehicle type and bumper number;
• Each circle equals "____" meters. An applicant must state the distance between circles;
• Elevation. A gunner must show the gun elevation reading in tens or hundreds of miles;
• Ammunition. An applicant enters the types of ammunition used;
• Description. A filer must use this section to indicate the name of the object (for example farmhouse, wood line, hilltop, etc.).
