What Is AC Form 8050-1B?

AC Form 8050-1B, Aircraft Registration Renewal Application , is a legal document completed by the owner of any aircraft to renew or cancel the existing registration with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) . Registration will expire three years after your aircraft was registered or last renewed - you have to schedule the date of filing the registration renewal application five months before your registration expires. It will enable the delivery of a new certificate of registration before the old one becomes invalid and provide the FAA with a safety margin to correct possible errors in the application.

The FAA will mail you a renewal notice to inform you of the expiring registration six months prior to the registration expiration date. If you have not renewed your registration on time, the FAA will send you a second notice; the third notice will be mailed when the registration and airworthiness certificates have expired and no longer support the operation of the aircraft.

AC Form 8050-1B Instructions

Provide the following details in the AC Form 8050-1B:

  1. Describe your aircraft. State its registration number, serial number, manufacturer, and model. Indicate the date your registration was issued and the date it expires, along with the type of registration you have;
  2. Provide the personal details of the registered owner the way they appear in the registration documentation. Write down the owner's full name, mailing address, and physical address. You may add one more owner's name on the first page;
  3. Certify the names and addresses you list are correct, the ownership of the aircraft complies with the citizenship requirements, and your aircraft is not registered in any foreign country;
  4. Update the mailing and/or physical addresses if they have changed;
  5. If you wish to cancel the registration for the aircraft, fill out this form. Check the appropriate boxes - request of the cancellation of registration, the aircraft was sold, destroyed, scrapped, or exported. If you sold your aircraft, write down the name and address of the purchaser. If you wish to reserve the aircraft registration number, check the appropriate box and enclose the $10 reservation fee;
  6. Sign the form, print your name, indicate your title (if the owner is a corporation, partnership, or limited liability company, and state the actual date. The second page of the form allows you to add twelve more owner names. If you need more, you may print additional pages and attach them to your application.
