Form 411007, Application for Certificate of Title and/or Registration , is a form used to register a car in the state of Iowa and to have a link connecting a particular vehicle to its owner for security and tax collecting purposes. Form 411007 is used to transfer the title on a new vehicle or a vehicle from another state. Title transfers must be done within 30 days from the date of purchase to avoid penalties.

It can only be submitted in person at the Treasurer's office of the county in which a car owner is going to reside. The applicant has to have a valid Iowa driver's license, a car title signed by the previous owner or an official car dealer, and a minimum car insurance policy with at least $20,000 bodily damage coverage per person/per accident and $40,000 bodily damage coverage for all persons in a car per accident. How to Register Your Vehicle in Iowa?

To apply for an Iowa vehicle registration please find your county's Treasurer's office and apply in person. Prepare your documents: certificate of title for the car, an Iowa driver's license, and at least minimal car insurance. You can pick up a Form 411007 at the Treasurer's Office or download the most recent version online.

  1. To file Form 411007, prepare the following personal information:

    • Your full name;
    • An Iowa state DL (Driver's License) or ID number;
    • Your SSN (Social Security Number);
    • Your address of residence with the ZIP Code and a mailing address, if applicable.
  2. If there is more than one vehicle owner, provide detailed information for the other owner/owners as well in the first part of the Iowa Vehicle Registration Form.

  3. The second part requires information on the vehicle:

    • VIN;
    • Year;
    • Make and Model;
    • Type of the vehicle (car, truck, etc.);
    • Detailed information such as style and color;
    • Fuel type;
    • Number of cylinders;
    • Tonnage;
    • Vehicle plate number, if applicable.
  4. If there's a security interest by other parties on the vehicle, the information on the interest has to be filled out.

  5. In the "Purchase Price" section the financial information on a car purchase has to be provided and the car purchase exemptions, if applicable. The form should then be signed and dated by all owners.
