Feline Dental Chart: What Is It?

A Feline Dental Chart provides information about the structure of teeth in cats.

Alternate Names:

  • Cat Tooth Chart;
  • Feline Tooth Chart.

This information can be used to characterize a cat's dental problems, such as plaque accumulation, loss of teeth, and crowding caused by delayed tooth development or other issues. Furthermore, cat owners may collaborate with a specialist in veterinarian dental hygiene to create a plan of action to stop future tooth degradation and tooth loss.

A Feline Tooth Chart template can be downloaded below.

The chart usually has a diagram of all of the teeth that a cat is meant to possess. Each tooth is given a number and upon examination, a medical specialist can mark any findings on each particular tooth in the chart.

A cat develops 2 teeth sets throughout the duration of their life, the initial sets are referred to as their "baby teeth.” In total, they possess twenty-six of these types of teeth but these teeth will not start to emerge until they are about three weeks old. The incisors, which are the six upper and six lower teeth, are often the first sets of teeth to erupt. By the moment a cat is six weeks old, the remainder of the teeth will typically emerge.

In total, cats will develop thirty adult teeth, which start to emerge at approximately eleven weeks old. When cats reach six or seven months, the majority of cats typically have a full set of adult teeth that are permanent.
