How to Request Army Support?

Every state has its own Armed Forces and the laws that overlook and support their performance in public events may differ. The general rules listed below are applicable for most cases, but we advise you to visit the National Guard or DoD websites of the specific state before submitting your request for up-to-date details and information. DD Form 2536 instructions are as follows:

  1. The form must be submitted no later than 90 days before the event. If you fail to adhere to these terms, your chances for approval of the application will be greatly reduced. The requests received within less than 30 days will not be considered at all. Request processing usually takes from about 14 to 21 days.
  2. When completing DD Form 2536, provide as much information as possible to enhance your chances for approval:
    • Describe the event in Section I (include the specific requirements you may have for the units requested, the title, site and address of the event, information about the expected attendance, charging, fees, admission, and seating);
    • Section II provides information about the sponsoring organization (this includes their name and website, the type of entity, and contact information);
    • If you want to request the musical support file Section III, skip it completely in all other cases.

Do not submit the completed documents to the Pentagon (the address on the back of the form) as they will not be processed. Send them to the appropriate Armed Forces department in your specific state.
