What Is a Visa Application Form?
A visa application form is a document you fill out in order to request an official authorization (a visa) to enter or to remain within the borders of a specific country. Though each country may have its own classification, in general, all applications may be divided into two major types: applications for immigrant visas and applications for non-immigrant visas. Submit the latter if you are going to enter the country for a limited time period with an intent to travel, study, or for business. If you are planning to stay in the country as an immigrant, fill out the former and check out our library of country-specific forms and sample applications below.
The information you need to provide on the application form differs according to the specific country requirements and your purposes for entering the country. Immigrant visa application forms usually require more information. In any case, the details you provide on this form must be full and correct to the best of your knowledge and comply with the information provided on the supporting documents.
Filing requirements may be different in different countries as well. For example, the United States Bureau of Consular Affairs requires you to submit both the immigrant visa application form (Form DS-260) and the non-immigrant visa application form (Form DS-160) in electronic versions only. Some countries demand hand-signed paper forms. However, handwritten applications are usually not accepted.
