Classroom Observation Form: What Is It?

A Classroom Observation Form is a form used by the administration or a senior member of staff within a school to evaluate the performance of a teacher, focusing on their ability to teach. It can be done to look at the performance of a teacher which is usually done on an annual basis in schools but it can also be done to improve the teaching capabilities of the teacher providing them with important information and feedback concerning methodology as well as their relationship with students.

No matter the reason, carrying out classroom observations will have advantages for the school, the teacher, and their students. The most important aspect of classroom observation is to ensure that the person carrying out the observation is doing it in a correct manner, making sure they plan the following points:

• Have a clear reason for carrying out the observation which can be explained to the teacher;
• An appropriate schedule for carrying out observations along with dates and time intervals;
• A specific set amount of time that the observation will go on for;
• An effective way of collecting information and data concerning observations;
• An effective way of analyzing the collected information and data.

If this is done correctly, it can provide constructive feedback for teachers which can use that information to improve their lessons leading to an improvement in performance among their students which is the ultimate goal.
