Form T-7 Vehicle Bill of Sale - Georgia (United States)

What Is a Georgia Bill of Sale (Form T-7)?

Form T-7, Vehicle Bill of Sale is a document that records information about the details of a motor vehicle sale and purchase, discloses the vehicle's odometer mileage, and other details. Along with the vehicle's title (or the last registration certificate, if your vehicle is from 1985 or older), it constitutes the documentation required to sell the item. Selling or buying a motor vehicle is a major financial decision that involves a substantial sum of money, so take the time and trouble to create a bill of sale. This document, drafted properly, proves a legal agreement took place, and the buyer, not the seller, now bears responsibility for the vehicle.

This form was issued by the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) of the Georgia Department of Revenue . The latest version of the document was released on September 1, 2008 , with all previous editions obsolete. You can download a fillable Form T-7 through the link below. Georgia Vehicle Bill of Sale Requirements

Since the Vehicle Bill of Sale is a government-issued form in Georgia, the parties to the contract have to comply with state regulations:

  1. State the date of the sale;
  2. Write down the seller and the buyer's names and addresses;
  3. Submit the court ordercase number and the Georgia Tax ID Number, if the sale of the vehicle was ordered by a court of law. Do not forget to attach the court order;
  4. Identify the vehicle. Describe the item, including its year, make, model, and identification number. Provide details of the vehicle's current condition, along with any defects or faults;
  5. If there are any security interests, liens, claims, or encumbrances on the motor vehicle, record information about them in the appropriate section (the holder's name and address);
  6. Disclose the most recent and accurate odometer reading. The buyer has to acknowledge the odometer mileage upon the transfer of ownership. If the vehicle has odometer-related problems, for example, a mileage discrepancy, this must be reflected in the document. Bear in mind that vehicles 10 years and older do not have to comply with this requirement;
  7. If the vehicle was purchased outside the state of Georgia or in accordance with a court order, state its purchase price and tax rates. One of the Georgia T-7 Form main functions is to show the value of the item with the purpose of setting the correct sales tax amount;
  8. Sign the form. After the form is completed and signed, it is recommended to create an additional copy for the seller, while the buyer retains the original. Once the buyer has all the documentation and purchases insurance in accordance with state laws, it is time to visit the local county tax commissioner's office to register the vehicle within a month of purchase and get a new title.

Does a Vehicle Bill of Sale Need to Be Notarized in Georgia?

If you feel that some issues may arise in the future, you can supplement the document with an additional section containing fields for signatures of two witnesses and a notary public certification.
