CV Vs. Resume: What Is the Difference?

A resume and a CV are often confused or considered to be the same document, which is understandable since in some countries these terms are used as synonyms and a resume and a CV present interchangeable documents. Nevertheless, in the majority of countries (including the U.S.) resumes and CVs have distinctions, the most common of them are:

1. Both documents provide information about the candidate, however, a CV is focused on the individual's credentials and certifications, while a resume sums up information about their skills and work experience.
2. Another difference between a resume and a CV is that a CV is typically used for applying for positions in medical, academic, or other types of research, while a resume is mainly used for corporate and similar types of jobs.
3. Generally, CVs tend to be a lot longer than resumes since they include more information about the individual. They also cover types of information that the resumes commonly do not contain.

Basically, all of the differences come from the fact that each of these documents is used for applying for different types of positions, therefore, they each have different goals. How to Write a Curriculum Vitae?

Usually, individuals follow a general Curriculum Vitae format, according to which they are supposed to provide different types of information. The parts of your CV can include the following:

• Name, Professional Title, And Objective . You can start your CV by designating your name, professional title, and providing a prospective interviewer with an objective that will help them understand who you are and what you are looking for.
• Personal Information . In this section, you can provide the potential interviewer with your telephone number, email address, and other types of information that will help them get in touch with you. Additionally, here you can include links to your professional social network accounts.
• Experience . This part of your CV should indicate all of the places where you have worked, listed from the most recent to the earliest. It should state the name of the place, the name of your position, key responsibilities, and the period when you have worked there. You can also give a small description to the employer by explaining what their working activities have involved.
• Education . Here, you can provide information about your education. It can include the name of the educational institution where you graduated from, your studying period, the subject of your degree, specialty, and other details you would like to share.

In addition to the described section, you can also include other parts in your CV. It can be information about your publication, additional activities you do in your free time, awards and acknowledgments you received, soft and hard skills, and more.
