Why Is Student Feedback Important?

A survey or a feedback form filled out by the student is the surest way to find out whether the students enjoy their learning environments or believe not enough is done for their benefit. Consider using student feedback to improve teaching, learn what organizational issues the school struggles with presently, and simply take the advantage of the opportunity to complain about the problems you cannot share elsewhere like the unfair evaluation of your work by a certain professor or bullying you experience.

If you are asked to fill out a form that asks students from a particular class or the entire facility their opinion on their education, you may tell the recipient of the document how the teachers manage the behavior of students and implement modern practices to focus on individuals with special educational needs, whether the students feel encouraged to work on their assignments or they are overwhelmed by the workload, whether you feel secure in the classroom or they have to deal with the negative atmosphere on a daily basis, and if you are eager to be engaged in a stimulating discussion or you feel left out and ignored.

How to Provide Student Feedback?

Here are some tips you may use when providing student feedback to a teacher or school administrator:

1. Highlight the positive experiences and activities you have enjoyed most . Even if the main goal of the letter you write is to draw the attention of the school to a specific issue, both you and the institution will benefit from knowing what the students like. In many cases, teachers can tell what activities and tasks are popular among students but you may reassure them to boost their confidence.
2. Explain what bothers you in the classroom or outside it . The feedback is not only limited to the teaching techniques of your professor - you may complain about the challenges of the exam schedule, cleanliness of the facility, and difficult relationship with the school staff or your peers. Try to be precise and of course, remain honest - you may be called later to elaborate on the details you put in the form.
3. Suggest new activities and changes you want to see in the nearest future - for instance, you may offer new ideas regarding the classroom layout, school library, career exploration, distance learning, use of new technologies to improve the teaching process, or creativity of the assignments. Do not be reserved in your opinion but let the recipient of the feedback know you are not trying to offend anyone, you are simply looking out for your own academic future.
4. Even if you are given a survey that asks you to rate your learning experience using points or a scale, its results may not be sufficient . Consider adding remarks and notes to the document you have on your hands describing what should be done to help you and other students, what you appreciate about your school, and what you want to change about the status quo.
