Minnesota Bill of Sale Requirements

The State does not require you to document the sale of a firearm or personal property. The Bill of Sale in Minnesota is necessary only when transferring ownership of a watercraft or a vehicle not subject to titling. However, you are recommended to create the document even in case it is not required by law in order to have important evidence of the item transfer. The state does not have any special requirements for its look and content.

For the document to cover all aspects of the sale, make sure it contains the following:

  1. Identification information and addresses of all sellers and buyers involved;
  2. Full description of the transferred item. The description you enter must help to identify this item unmistakably. If the property you sell has any defects, they must be disclosed to the buyer and listed on the document;
  3. Terms of the sale. At a minimum, indicate the date of sale and the sales price. If there are any additional terms, enter them as well;
  4. Signatures of all sellers and buyers involved.

The Minnesota laws do not require you to notarize the document.
