How to Get a Title for a Boat with a Bill of Sale in Oklahoma? {id="mcetoc_1dufh3p6f1"}

It is mandatory to register your vessel and apply for a title within thirty days of the transfer. If you carry an original Bill of Sale onboard, it is allowed to operate your boat within the first thirty days of ownership. Gather the following documents and file them with the Motor Vehicle Division of the Oklahoma Tax Commission (OTC) to get a new title with your name on it:

1. Oklahoma Boat Bill of Sale. Traditionally, this document includes the parties' personal details, description of the watercraft (its make, year, color, hull identification number, state identification number), location and date of the transaction, price of the boat, and signatures of the parties, or their legal representatives. Add information about the trailer or outboard engine if it is included in the sale;
2. OTC Form BM-26, Application for Certificate of Title for a Boat or Outboard Motor;
3. OTC Form BM-10, Boat or Outboard Motor Serial Number Confirmation. This document is required if the vessel's outboard engine is over 10 horsepower;
4. Manufacturer's Statement of Origin if the watercraft is purchased new;
5. Old certificate of title if the boat is bought from an individual.

Once you take the documents to the OTC, you must pay all taxes and registration related fees. All boats, used or capable of being used as a means of transportation, must be registered and titled annually. The registration period runs from July 1 through June 30 of the next year. The registration is renewed in person or by mail when you submit the necessary documentation to the OTC.
