10 Sample Interview Questions and Answers

Many people struggle while preparing for a job interview. To make the process easier a candidate can look through a list of common interview questions to comprehend what they might hear from a prospective employer. These quarries can also be useful for those interviewers who do not know yet which questions they should ask and how helpful they will be.

10 Sample Interview Questions and Answers for First-Time Job Seekers

Sample interview questions that get asked the most can include the following:

  1. "Tell me about yourself." This question allows the potential employee to introduce themselves. Try to describe your current or previous position and provide background information. Be genuine and confident when discussing yourself: this is the only chance for a prospective employer to get a first impression of you.
  2. "How did you hear about this position?" This determines whether the candidate is a passive or active employment seeker. The interviewer wants to verify whether the candidate is applying for all of the available job offers available to them and waits to be invited for an interview, or whether the candidate has put their focus towards certain companies that work in particular fields that they find appealing. Another reason why a candidate might hear this question at an interview is that their prospective employer has most likely posted the job offer in many areas so they would like to understand which source was the most popular for finding candidates.
  3. "Why do you want this job?" When the interviewer asks this they want to know to what level the candidate has researched the company, as well as their knowledge about its products and values. The candidate can respond to this by demonstrating that they have researched the position they are applying for and refer to the potential employer’s corporate culture, policies, or other aspects that they appeal to the most.
  4. "What motivates you?" Interviewers can use this to settle whether the candidate will be motivated to succeed if they will be chosen for employment. When planning on how to respond to this, the candidate should think about what keeps them inspired and energetic in their previous (or current) job, makes sure it is relevant to the position they are applying for, and is able to fully describe it.
  5. "What are your greatest strengths?" This induces candidates to explain what makes them a great employee and a great choice for the position. They can describe personal qualities that are relevant to this position and illustrate them with a few examples.
  6. "What do you consider to be your weaknesses?" The response to this will let the interviewer judge whether the candidate is honest and if there are any warning signs why they should not hire the candidate. The best way to profit from this is to find a balance between describing a thing a candidate is struggling with but trying to improve.
  7. "How do you prioritize your work?" Behavioral interview aspects are also very important since they help conclude how a candidate handles complicated situations. When answering this, the candidate should describe to the interviewer how they manage their time and tasks. They can mention whether they use special apps for time management, a day planner, or any other things that help them keep everything organized.
  8. "Why should we hire you?" The candidate should not be shy or intimidated by this, since it is a great opportunity to present themselves in the best and most appealing light. This is supposed to motivate candidates to explain why they can do this job better than anybody else and why they will be successful by describing their skills, achievements, qualifications, etc.
  9. "Why are you leaving your present job?" Candidates will not gain anything by talking negatively about their previous or current employer. They can explain that they are looking for new opportunities and new developments that they could not find in their previous job. However, if they were laid off or let go, it is better to keep it simple and honest.
  10. "Do you have any questions for me?" This is an opportunity for the candidate to ask their interviewer for information about the prospective position. Questions to ask after an interview can include anything in regards to their potential working schedule, wage, social benefits, and other important aspects. The interviewer should be ready for the candidate to ask whether it is a new position or not, and if it is not a new position then why the previous employee has left. For them, it is a chance to find out whether the workplace environment is friendly and if they will integrate well.

Phone interviews can be a little different, however, they can contain many of the aspects described above as well, since it does not modify the nature of the interview much. Even though sometimes companies do not have the opportunity to organize an in-person interview, it is still the best way to learn more about the candidate since the interviewer can analyze their body language, emotions, and reactions.
