A Lease Renewal Letter is a document that landlords and property managers can use when they are satisfied with the tenancy they have and would like to continue the lease with their tenant. The purpose of the document is to inform the tenant that their lease has expired and they are welcome to prolong it on the property they occupy. A Lease Renewal Letter template can be downloaded below.
The law does not require the landlord to deliver the letter to the tenant, nevertheless, it is in their best interest to do so. A Lease Renewal Letter to Tenant should be completed by a landlord or their authorized representative, signed, and handed to the tenant before their lease has expired.
If the landlord does not want to continue the tenancy they can send their tenant a Lease Non Renewal Letter. Using this type of letter, they can notify the tenant that their lease is coming to an end, it is not going to be prolonged, and they have a certain amount of time to vacate the unit they occupy. Generally, the tenant has 30 days to leave the property they are living in, however, the landlord should check with the state's applicable law in case there are any specific regulations.
