Nebraska Gun Laws

The State of Nebraska does not require registration for either rifles or handguns. The only exception is Omaha - the city requires the registration of all handguns. The City of Lincoln asks its residents to report firearms sales that do not involve long guns typically used for sporting purposes. Also, there is no permit or license needed to possess or buy firearms. There is only one permit mandatory by the law of the state - a concealed carry permit or a handgun certificate is necessary when buying a handgun. You can apply for a concealed carry permit at your local Nebraska State Patrol if you file a filled out application, a certificate that proves you have completed a firearms safety training program, a document showing your permanent residency, valid driver's license, and proof of payment for application and required fees.

Open carry is allowed, but local governments may restrict this right. If you wish to open carry in your vehicle, the gun must be clearly visible.
