Does a Firearm Bill of Sale Need to Be Notarized in Alabama?

Any Alabama Firearm Bill of Sale form must consist of three parts; namely, details of the transaction, statement of the seller, and notarization. This form must be prepared in duplicate copies and both the seller and the buyer should keep it in their records. The form must include the following information:

  • Date, time and location of the transaction.

  • Signatures. Both the buyer and the seller must sign the bill of sale and enter the date.
  • Certification of seller. The seller should certify that the firearm has never been used in a manner of questionable or certain illegality. They should also certify that they are the legal and rightful owner of the firearm and thus have the full right to convey it.

When a gun owner wants to carry their firearm with them in Alabama, they are required to have a Concealed Carry Permit. However, state law does not require a permit to purchase a firearm. Also, new gun owners do not have to register the firearm with the state. In order to get a Concealed Carry Permit, they must apply at their local county Sheriff's department.
