What Is Required on a Bill of Sale in Alaska? {id="mcetoc_1dscfn9op0"}

The state laws do not require filling out an Alaska Generic Bill of Sale when handing over property. However, it is a good idea to prepare one. It may serve as a purchase receipt, as proof that you are a legal owner of the indicated item, or that you are not responsible for the described item anymore.

For the document to serve as evidence accepted by all the officials of the state, it should include the following:

  • Identification information about the seller and the buyer, including their names and physical addresses. If more than a single seller and buyer are involved, indicate it on the document as well;
  • Description of the property being transferred. Provide any relevant details necessary for the identification of the item or items, including general description (e.g., color, size), serial number if any, manufacturer, year, and others. If the transferred item has any blemishes, describe them, too;
  • Warranty disclaimer stating that the buyer accepts the indicated item "as-is" or describing warranty conditions if the seller provides any;
  • Price of the indicated item. It is better to enter the amount both in words and in digits. If the property is given as a gift, specify it on the bill of sale as well;
  • Details of the transaction. Every document must include the date it comes into effect. If the transfer is made under any special conditions, carefully describe them in this part. For example, if the payment is divided into several parts, specify the amount of each part and the date it is due;
  • Signatures of the seller and the buyer. The signatures are the acknowledgment that the seller willfully hands and the buyer accepts the described item under the listed conditions.

Prepare the document in two original copies and keep it for your records.
