The state does not require you to complete a Bill of Sale when selling or buying personal property in Louisiana. At the same time, both the seller and buyer usually prefer to fill out this document for extra protection. If filled out properly, it protects the legal interests of both parties and serves multiple purposes:
- Proves the buyer is the new owner of the described item;
- Is used as a purchase receipt and proof of payment;
- Releases the seller from responsibility for the described item and its further use;
- Contains basic details and conditions of the transfer.
To create reliable protection against any fraudulent claims that may arise in the future, fill out the Louisiana Bills of Sale as follows:
- Provide the full name, driver's license number, and full physical address of the seller;
- Enter the same information about the buyer;
